  • Syracuse University's Theta Tau fraternity suspended over 'extremely racist' and 'homophobic' video

One video shows men from the Theta Tau fraternity taking this oath: "I solemnly swear to always have hatred in my heart for n*****s, sp*cs and most importantly, the fucking k*kes".

"We really can't have this kind of culture on campus, it's 2018 and everyone should be loving each other, and respecting each other", a student told CBS Syracuse.

Theta Tau is not the first fraternity, nor Syracuse the first university, to be involved in a scandal involving racism or sexism.

Theta Tau said that the "young" men who played the characters "do not hold any of the frightful views espoused as a part of that sketch".

They also demanded that the school release the videos, one of which was obtained by The Daily Orange Wednesday night. This year, one of these brothers is a conservative Republican, and the new members roasted him by playing the part of a racist conservative character, ' the NY school's Theta Tau chapter says on its website.

A fraternity being investigated for an "extremely racist" video said that its members were performing a "satirical sketch" to roast one of its brothers who is a "conservative Republican". "The only difference between this display of prejudice and so many others that go unnoticed at the university is that someone recorded it, and it got out".

The university's Theta Tau chapter was suspended Monday morning after officials confirmed it was behind a series of online videos deemed racially offensive and "hostile toward people with disabilities", Chancellor Kent Syverud wrote in a campus email blast. In 2015, Sigma Alpha Epsilon closed its University of Oklahoma chapter - and two students were expelled - after members were filmed chanting that African-Americans would never be allowed to join.

Syverud said in the statement he'd "communicate further on this matter later today, including about other steps and resources we will make available to our community", but it's not clear what measures were taken that have not been posted on the University's website. They demonstrated in front of the chancellor's house and then gathered at Hendricks Chapel on campus where they expressed their feelings on the incident.

By the time the march began, McMonagle said, there were 300 people in the group chat being used to organize it.

The chapter said it's embarrassed, disappointed and ashamed, adding, 'Anyone of color or of any marginalized group who has seen this video has every right to be angry and upset with the despicable contents of that video'.
