That standing was enhanced on Sunday when Texas native Andrew Landry fashioned a 4-under-par 68 to finish at 17-under 271 and post a two-shot victory at the TPC San Antonio's demanding Oaks Course, in the process capturing his first career win in his 32nd PGA Tour start.

He closed with three straight birdies, holing an eight-foot putt at the par-five 18th to finish at 12-under 276, five strokes behind American victor Andrew Landry. Looking to put some pressure on Landry, Mullinax chunked his pitch on the short 17th hole into a greenside bunker, leading to a bogey on one of the easiest holes on the course.

Mullinax left himself a nine-foot birdie putt while Landry needed to two-putt from 50 feet for the victory but rolled his first putt eight feet past the cup.

Given time to reflect, the 26-year-old will likely look back on the final two holes where nerves appeared to get the best of him.

"A complete lack of focus", Landry said of his second missed birdie putt in a row. He earned his tour card previous year on the Web.com Tour, and lost a playoff to Jon Rahm in January in the CareerBuilder Challenge.

Jimmy Walker, the 2016 Valero Texas Open victor and a local favorite, shot 5 under on Sunday and finished alone in fourth at 14 under.

Johnson's challenge fell away as bogeyed the last to card a 72, which allowed Jimmy Walker to leapfrog him into fourth place on 14 under in an all-American top five.

"It's fun to compete against the so-called younger generation", Johnson said.

The Tour moves to Avondale, La., next week for the Zurich Classic, a two-player team event, at the TPC Louisiana.
