McCormack disagreed. "People are right", he said at a news conference.

Suspect Alek Minassian, 25, was charged with 10 counts of murder and 13 counts of attempted murder in the incident. Police arrested the suspect at the scene and identified him as Alek Minassian. Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders declined to speculate on a motive for the attack, but said that the driver's actions "definitely looked deliberate".

Mr Saunders said Minassian, who lives in the Toronto suburb of Richmond Hill, had not been known to police previously.

A Jordanian citizen was also killed, said an official at the country's embassy in Ottawa. "But he's more concerned with 10 people being dead, 15 people being injured, why now and what's happening in this city".

Witnesses say the driver was deliberately targeting pedestrians.

- A former classmate said Minassian often succumbed to peer pressure - such as running down a hallway shirtless when dared by other students. We will overthow all the Chads and Stacys!

The term is shorthand used in some online message boards for "involuntary celibacy", a loose social media movement of men who blame women for their celibacy. Most of the victims were women. The suspect was arrested 26 minutes after the first emergency call was made to the police. "It's something that we'll take into account".

The number of fatalities and the circumstances of the incident make it challenging to quickly identify those who died, and the coroner's office is being particularly careful to avoid any possible confusion, Dr. Dirk Huyer said.

The deadliest mass killing in Canada in decades took the lives of two South Korean citizens and eight others on Monday. An employee of USA -based investment management firm Invesco Canada, which has offices on Yonge Street close to where Monday's carnage unfolded, D'Amico was a "star" to those who knew her - a kind, gentle and tireless volunteer with Toronto's tennis community.

In September, a Somali refugee was charged with attempted murder over allegations he ran down four pedestrians with a auto and stabbed a police officer outside a sports stadium in Edmonton, Alberta.

At the scene, at least three bodies could be seen under orange sheets and a long stretch of road was sealed off with police incident tape.

She says: "He did not complete his recruit training and requested to be voluntarily released from the CAF after 16 days of recruit training". A 14th count of attempted murder was pending after the toll of injured was revised down.

So far, officials aren't calling the attack an act of terrorism.

Anne-Marie D'Amico came from a family with longstanding ties to Canada's Rogers Cup tennis tournament. He spoke with her parents on Tuesday. She also worked with Invesco, a US-based investment management firm.

"D'Amico volunteered at a Canada-based global humanitarian charity called Live Different".

D'Amico also volunteered with the youth charity Live Different on two humanitarian field trips to the Dominican Republic, first in 2015 and again in 2017. He remembered her as "super-positive, always smiling, a amusing person, always up for a challenge, and really wanted to help people out".

He recalled her as "a brilliant young girl" who was very active and interested in improving society.

In the meantime, Toronto Mayor John Tory said Tuesday that while residents may be shaken, they have not been broken.

The man yells and extends one arm, pointing an object at an officer standing behind a black auto.

The video of that confrontation between a Toronto police officer and the man was captured on a bystander's cellphone video that was obtained by CNN partner CTV.

The suspect warns he has a gun in his pocket.

"Shoot me in the head", he's heard telling the officer. The officer continues to urge him to get down.

"Kill me", he screamed as he rapidly raised and lowered the object in his hand. He showed little emotion. His next court appearance will be a bail hearing on May 10. "I can now confirm that unfortunately one of our employees has succumbed to her injuries". She embodied the definition of altruism, her family said in its statement.

Canadian Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said the van attack is not part of a plot that poses a threat to national security.

"Well, of course, the investigations are continuing, but it is already quite clear there is no connection to national security, pursay", he said.
