Janelle Monae's sexuality has always been the topic of speculation, and the "PYNK" singer has finally given her fans a definitive answer.

"Being a black queer woman in America", Janelle told Rolling Stone, "someone who has been in relationships with both men and women - I consider myself to be a free-ass motherf**ker".

The "Tightrope" singer goes onto explain how she initially identified as bisexual, "but then later I read about pansexuality and was like, 'Oh, these are things that I identify with too.' I'm open to learning more about who I am". "Q.U.E.E.N.", Monáe said in 2013, is an acronym "for those who are marginalized". The Hidden Figures actress also talked about her sexuality, confirming speculation that she's a member of the LGBTQ community.

The music videos for the singles from Dirty Computer have celebrated being queer, and the album will feature an accompanying film where Tessa Thompson-who Monáe was after in the "Make Me Feel" video-plays one of the female "dirty computers" named "Mary Apple".

Google showed that "pansexual", "pansexual definition" and "Janelle Monae" were among its top five searches on Thursday in the United States. Her recent songs and videos for "Make Me Feel" and "PYNK" celebrated her fluid sexuality while plenty of her songs from her previous albums, including The Archandroid and Electric Lady, were plenty queer in text and subtext. However, she's still keeping her personal life to herself and won't comment on any reports regarding who she might be dating.

"If you listen to my albums it's there", the singer says, adding that the song "Q.U.E.E.N." was originally titled "Q.U.E.E.R". "It's something I am still processing and trying to understand, and I don't like talking about it too much. It's just about the spirit that exudes from that other person you're with".
