"Parents told us they would like controls that make the app inaccessible at a certain time, like during dinner, homework time or bedtime". The social networking giant has no intention of pulling the plug on what is a window into the Facebook world for those yet to reach the ripe old age of 13.

The app is created to be installed on a child's device, with the parent able to control settings from their own Facebook account. There is a special control panel available for the Kids app which allows the parents to add and remove contacts to chat with their Children.

As far as what happens when sleep mode is activated, the app won't deliver notifications, kids won't be able to send or receive messages, and they won't be able to access the app's camera functionality, either.

Later this year, parents will be able to handpick every video and channel that children can view through the app, YouTube Kids said in its blog post, even restricting them to, say, 10 videos or a single channel. If a kid does try to open the app, it will let them know it's now in sleep mode and refuse access.

With Sleep Mode, parents can set a designated off time and each day at the designated time, the app will "go to sleep" and not be accessible to kids during those hours.

Go to "Sleep Mode" in the App Controls section. Then, you can set the times that you want your child to not have access to the device.

Facebook and Facebook's Messenger Kids app icons are displayed on an iPhone in NY on February 16, 2018.

Facebook introduced the sleep mode to its app Messenger Kids today, April 28 to improve parental controls that are the core of the app experience.

Facebook and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg have been under the radar ever since the social network's disclosure that 87 million of its users' information was wrongly shared with Cambridge Analytica, a political targeting firm. This could be a good time to let them know that you're setting limits for them on Messenger Kids.
