Iran's main objective is to destabilize the Saudi Arabian, regional and global security, Col. Malki said, adding, "Launching ballistic missiles at densely populated civilian areas is a direct breach of the principles of worldwide humanitarian laws".

Tens of thousands of Yemenis mourners were attending the funeral of Saleh al-Samad on Saturday when the airstrike occurred.

In a televised speech, Houthi leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi vowed that the death of Samad - a relative moderate who helped oversee political and administrative duties while the Houthi military wing pursued fighting - would not split its ranks.

The Iran-backed rebels have been locked in a war with the Saudi-led military alliance, which since 2015 has fought to restore the internationally-recognised Yemeni government to power.

The Saudi-led coalition imposed a total blockade on Yemen's ports in November in retaliation for cross-border Huthi missile attacks on Saudi Arabia.

The agency made the announcement on Twitter on Saturday without elaborating.

Witnesses in Sanaa reported more Saudi-led air raids over the capital during the funeral, without reporting any casualties.

An Arab coalition air strike has killed dozens of Houthi militants including two commanders, Saudi state media said Saturday, in another blow to the militia following the assassination of their political chief.

The Houthis confirmed the airstrike but did not give more details.

A spokesman for the civil defense authority said a Saudi citizen died of shrapnel while two vehicles and three houses sustained damage from the attack.

In a separate development, Saudi media reported that several Houthi figures had been killed in an airstrike on Sana'a on Friday evening. The Shiite rebels generally known as Houthis didn't instantly acknowledge the strike. Four of the missiles were intercepted, the Saudi Defence Ministry told Saudi-owned Al Arabiya TV.

Al-Arabiya said the strike hit a building belonging to Yemen's Interior Ministry.
