Iran's foreign minister: U.S. has 'consistently violated' Iran nuclear agreement

Trump said that the Iran nuclear deal expires in seven years and after that, Iran is free to develop a nuclear weapon. Iran stands firm in the face of futile attempts and bullying. That's not what happened when the Obama administration tried to make the Middle East a little more stable by reining in Iran's efforts to become the world's newest nuclear power.

As for the concern Iran is not compliant with the agreement, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations body charged with monitoring the deal, has presented no such evidence.

Congress requires the president to recertify every four months that Iran is complying with the deal, or it could reimpose sanctions.

President Trump seems to believe that the recent revelations show that Iran did not enter into the 2015 agreement in good faith. Although the attacks were not as severe as anticipated by many observers, they were sufficient to reinforce Iran's resolve to not negotiate with the West over its missile capabilities. The problem with Trump's strategy has been that it's not clear what he intends to do, after withdrawing from the 2015 deal, to get a better one - assuming he doesn't plan to go to war against Iran.

Iran and the major world powers have signed a nuclear deal under which Iran agreed to curb its nuclear program in exchange for economic sanctions relief.

Trump has frequently voiced his opposition to the "insane" deal, which he has described as the "worst ever". By opposing China on the Iran deal, Trump could weaken his hand. Iran's belligerence in the region - its meddling overseas, in particular in Syria, Iraq and Yemen, was not addressed.

Such attacks are considered more likely than actions that might trigger a USA military response against Iranian nuclear and military targets. Now let them squirm awhile, as the worldwide community sifts the evidence of Iranian deception.

Meanwhile, the impact of renewed sanctions may be quite limited strategically.

"It will be almost impossible to bring Iran back to the negotiating table with the US for years to come, as its leaders will conclude that there is no point in concluding agreements with the United States", wrote Ilan Goldenberg of the Center for New American Security. And even if some signatories agree to re-impose sanctions, there is little to suggest Iran's ambitions have been severely thwarted by decades of sanctions anyway.

The deal's critics are unmoved, and they are pushing for what they consider a long-overdue confrontation with Tehran. Above all, they shatter Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's claim that Iran has never pursued nuclear weapons. In addition, certain terms last forever, including the prohibition on ever designing or making a nuclear weapon, and remaining under the eye of worldwide inspectors. But this is rough play: the (Israeli) air strikes which decimated Saddam's nuclear program and Syria's were small scale, directed against limited, discrete targets, vulnerable above ground. The facility, which is located underground, was built for uranium enrichment.

And that's all before the Russians weigh in.
