Or so they say, because no matter how much I mess with the audio I can hear only Laurel ... only Laurel.

Other theories were more plausible.

Enter: the "Yanny" or "Laurel" audio clip.

People online can't seem to agree on what they hear.

Beauty and fashion designer Cloe Feldman tweeted a video Monday with an audio track and asked people to vote, 'What do you hear?! Even though that word is clearly "yanny", some weirdos out there perceive it as-oh shit, now I hear "laurel".

Another wrote: "My wife heard yanny".

There are two distinct voices saying both names.

"If I cut your ears off and put someone else's on your head, sounds would sound different", University of Chicago psychologist Howard Nusbaum told Gizmodo.

"So.it's actually a very poor quality recording and the brain gets influenced by what you read first, before you actually hear it".

In a small group experiment at The Buffalo News, most heard "Laurel", while only one staffer heard "Yanny".

All of these little factors add up to cause absolute pandemonium on the internet.

After she posted the recording, along with a poll, the arguments and confusion began. But turn the volume up and play it on a set of speakers that replicate bass better, and you may find yourself on team laurel.

Who knows what could happen next.
