  • Caps Fans Grab Some Of Their Teams Swagger Going Into Game 3 Tonight

After dropping the opening two games of the Eastern Conference Finals at home to the Washington Capitals, the Tampa Bay Lightning needed a win on the road to avoid being pushed to the brink of elimination. The Lightning have been risky on the road throughout the playoffs posting a 4-1 record, while the Capitals have struggled at home losing 4 of their seven home games.

The Lightning rebounded to take a 2-1 lead in the first period of Game Two, but the Capitals responded with 5 unanswered goals to take a convincing 2-0 series lead.

Both teams entered the game red-hot on the power play, and the Lightning's unsafe extra-man unit continued its terrorizing ways.

"They came in here, they're desperate and they played that way", said Capitals coach Barry Trotz. Twenty-seven of the 37 shots came in the final two periods after the Capitals took a 2-1 lead.

Keeping them scoreless was never more crucial than in the first 10 minutes, when most of the game was played in the Lightning's end. They energized a Lightning team that had been walloped in Games 1-2 at home before flying north to savage this series and their season-and succeeded. Washington outscored Tampa Bay a combined 7-1 during 5-on-5 in Games 1 and 2. The brief flames kept getting extinguished by Tampa Bay goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy, in a 180-degree turn from the series' first two games.

In the first two games, Washington scored goals in the waning seconds of a period in each contest. Point picked up an assist on Steven Stamkos' power-play goal in the first period. During last year's playoff series between the Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs, many fans were forced to leave Game 2 when it was tied 3-3 in overtime because metro service was ending soon.

This isn't to say the Caps played poorly and still won in those games because of fluky goals. He has four points in two games.

Washington goalie Braden Holtby stopped 19 shots.

"I'm put in a position to produce, and I put that pressure on myself to do it", said Hedman, who has a goal and 10 assists during an eight-game point streak.

"We're off to a heck of a start, but we've got to take care of business at home", defenseman Matt Niskanen said.

The Capitals strike back with 9:29 left in the 2nd.

4 on 3 for the Bolts. They scored four goals in Tampa. "Now we are, so we'll see what type of team we are".

A late goal in the second period from Brett Connolly and another from Evgeny Kuznetsov in the third made it interesting. They did that on Tuesday night. "It's how we're playing and our effort, our game plan".

"It wasn't really fair for him the first couple and we really didn't do a good job in front of him so it was big", defenseman Anton Stralman said.
