  • Two Palestinians killed by Israeli tank fire in Gaza

According to the military, the bomb "went off during the clearing procedure".

Israel Defence Minister on Sunday announced that construction had begun on a marine barrier with the Gaza Strip extending into the Mediterranean Sea.

The baby reportedly may not have been killed from tear gas shot by Israeli soldiers on the Palestinian protesters, part of a series of protests dubbed the "Great March of Return", but rather died from a preexisting condition.

A statement from the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, the Al-Quds Brigades, claimed the two as members.

The ministry identified those killed by tank fire as Hussein al-Amour, 25, and Abdul Haleem al-Naqa, 28.

Since then, Israel has been preparing for possible attacks by sea by Hamas, especially as the IDF has improved its ability to detect and destroy Hamas tunnels under the fence separating the Gaza Strip from Israel.

No injuries were reported either from local sources or the IDF.

The naval commandos brought with them automatic weapons, explosives and fragmentation grenades but at the time, the Israel Defence Forces succeeded in stopping the attack.

On May 14 - the bloodiest day of the conflict coinciding with the US's highly-contested embassy move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem - at least 60 Palestinians were killed by IDF live fire.

There have been no Israeli casualties along the Gaza frontier, but Israel has reported extensive damage to farmland on its side of the border from firebomb-bearing kites flown over from Gaza.

The Israeli military aggression killed almost 2,200 Palestinians and injured over 11,100 others.

At least 118 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in the Gaza Strip since mass protests and clashes broke out in March.

The death of the baby inflamed Palestinian passions and led to a deluge of condemnation against Israel for its heavy-handed response to the border protests.

The Israeli military said in a statement that its "fighter jets struck military targets in a compound belonging to the Hamas terror organisation in the southern Gaza Strip".
