NFL Confirms Critics' Worst Suspicions About Anti-Kneeling Policy

Eric Reid, although less implicated in any resistant movements, was the player who knelt beside Kaepernick in a September 2016 game against the Los Angeles Rams. Ross also acknowledged that he believed the protests were hurting the Dolphins financially, according to the Journal, and that he felt NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was influenced by Trump's comments.

A few National Football League players are considering sitting out the season unless former San Francisco 49ers players, Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid, are given contracts, Shaun King announced on Tuesday.

His comments come just days after the league enacted a policy that it would fine players who did not stand on the field for the national anthem. Reid's attorney also represents Kaepernick in his own collusion grievance, which was filed against the National Football League in October. "There may be evidence that an owner decided not to sign Kaepernick because of his demonstrations, but it's not evidence that there was any agreement between multiple owners not to sign him".

"[We] got an owner under penalty of perjury testifying that he changed his mind after he was told what Trump said", Geragos said. Trump referred to kneeling players as a "son of a bitch".

Kaepernick's protest, which consists exclusively of kneeling while the national anthem is played at games to draw attention to racism and discrimination in law enforcement, drew Trump's ire.

King asked if Johnson would support all player protests. Though he has stopped taking a knee, Reid vowed to continue protesting injustice. Noting that owners' conversations with Mr. Trump were relayed during a league meeting, he said: "I thought he changed the dialogue".

Kaepernick's attorney, Mark Geragos, hailed the owners' testimony in an appearance on CBS News legal correspondent Amy Dash's "Straight Aim" podcast.
