After about three weeks out of the media spotlight, the USA first lady tried to ease anxiety and rapidly spreading speculations about her health as she continued to recover from a kidney condition. Days later, she was checked into the hospital for kidney problems and stayed for a week despite the typical recovery taking a day. Another person joked, "Who are you and what have you done with Melanie?!". "Right there. She's doing great".

Posting on her Twitter account @FLOTUS to her 10.5 million followers, Melania put the rumours at rest, commenting: "I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I'm doing".

The Huffington Post pointed out that the phrases "working overtime", "speculating", "working hard" and "on behalf of the American people" feature frequently in the president's tweets.

Melania Trump has finally been spotted, 20 days after she was last seen in public.

And who can forget that memorable day in October when Twitter conspiracy theorists became convinced that POTUS was standing next to a body double, not his wife, in a picture.

The first lady's tweet practically read like a ransom note-esque splicing of the president's greatest hits.

Trump is just fine, it's the internet who's overreacting, according to Grisham.

Those close to Mrs Trump told Politico that she is behind the decision to reveal so little information about her absence from the spotlight.

Perhaps the concern or speculation also masks some frustration. "How does 1500 children go missing, and how is it no one has seen the First Lady of the United States in over 3 weeks?" asked tweeter Christopher Bouzy.

The first lady, still an enigma in Washington a year after her arrival at the White House, is the capital's media mystery du jour, with the burning question: Where is Melania? Or her kidney condition, which the White House said led to her being hospitalized in the first place, is more serious than had initially been reported.

Twitter users were quick to note that the tone of the statement, as well as the punctuation, sounded nothing like the first lady's typical tweeting style.

In short, she was on a roll.

Grisham did not say when the first lady's next public event would be. Reporters turned to look but she wasn't there. President Trump had embarked upon a mission to shed 10 to 15 pounds in January by altering his diet and with a new exercise plan to pull back from borderline obesity, CNN said in the report on Wednesday. "She has always been independent". I wouldn't characterise it as a long absence. Some doctors familiar with the procedure but not involved in her care said people treated with embolization typically are sent home the same day or the next. "She has had several meetings internally with staff and will continue to do so this week".

In April, she alone represented the administration at the Houston funeral of former first lady Barbara Bush.
