  • Government officials hope that Vermont’s high quality of life will draw out-of-state workers to relocate to the area

Now, it's the state that will pay you up to $10,000 in moving and business expenses to move there.

Interested workers better act fast.

Calling all remote workers: Vermont has a deal for you. To be eligible, you not only have to become a full-time resident only after the start date, but also must be employed full-time by an out-of-state employer.

In the coming months, people will be able to apply via Vermont's Agency of Commerce and Community Development, which is still finalizing some of the program's details. The average resident is older than the majority of the USA population and the state is concerned about a rapidly shrinking tax base. Lyons also said she hopes to retain college students who might leave for jobs after graduation. Vermont will pay for your relocation expenses by giving you up to $5,000 a year for two years. In March, Governor Scott and the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing announced the so-called Stay-to-Stay initiative, which is meant to help tourists relocate to the state.

Legislators introduced the program seeking to shift the population's demographics.

Current residents aren't eligible.

"We recognize the need to recruit people to the state, and this is one of those efforts", Goldstein told CNN.

The grant is available on a first-come first-served basis for the first 100 people who relocate on or after January 1, 2019.

In 2021, the available funds will decrease to $125,000, and then to no more than $100,000 in the years that follow. In March, Gov. Scott and the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing announced the Stay-to-Stay initiative, a program created to help tourists permanently relocate to the state.
