  • Designer Kate Spade reportedly found dead from apparent suicide

Spade, who grew up in Kansas City, said she never expected to start a handbag company.

Masaba Gupta, who is popular for her out-of-the-box designs, has mourned the death of global designer Kate Spade and says it is such a "strange and damaged time we are living in".Spade, who created a line of handbags in the 1990s, was found dead in her apartment in NY on Tuesday. 'I always admired that she was self-made and was so sad to hear the news of her passing.

Last month, Spade posted to Instagram a throwback photo with her daughter Frances, 13, to celebrate Mother's Day.

Fans share their first Kate Spade moments.

After graduation, Spade moved to NY, starting her career at Mademoiselle magazine as an accessories editor.

Spade was not only about bags: she would expand into shoes, apparel, luggage and other accessories, and stationery. The couple sold it in 2006 for about $38 million. Spade was found hanged by a scarf she allegedly tied to a doorknob, an NYPD source said.

In a November 2017 interview with How I Built This podcast host Guy Raz, Spade admitted she suffered from nerves and wished she "worried less". "People asked me, 'Don't you miss it?' I really didn't".

Fashion designer Kenneth Cole has come under fire for an insensitive tweet labelling Kate Spade an "inspiring accessory " hours after her devastating death. She tried jeans, for example, decided they didn't look good on her, and moved on. Andy Spade is the brother of comedian/actor David Spade. Shea declined to speak about what was in the note or about police conversations with the family. I still cant believe it.

Her death by apparent suicide seems in marked contrast to Spade's delightful, playful designs, which truly epitomised the word "happy".

"They seemed to be a flawless couple, very happy together". "You just never know the demons that people are dealing with".

The pair reportedly met while working as salespeople in an Arizona men's clothing shop while they were at university. "I'm the same person, but there's a difference". Spade moved on to launch a new luxury brand, Frances Valentine.

Away from business, the pair collected art and their ideal meal was "meatloaf and mashed potatoes, paired with elegant lighting, candles, and flowers", Spade told Bon Appetit in 2012. Her bags were featured in Vogue and other fashion magazines, and celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow were spotted carrying Kate Spade bags.

In today's terms, her early handbags were priced around the US$300 mark, making them affordable for young professional women who wanted more than the cheaper offerings but couldn't afford the more traditional, high end designers.
