Justin Trudeau: We won't be pushed around by Trump

US President Donald Trump on Saturday said he had instructed his representatives not to endorse a joint communique put out by the Group of Seven leaders after what he called Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's "false statements" at a news conference.

Moreover, after departing from the Quebec summit for Singapore, Donald Trump has slammed Canadian Prime Minister's remarks at the G7 news conference, where he said Canada would not be pushed around, as "very dishonest and weak".

Trudeau said he had told Trump that the talks had been made more complicated by a USA decision to impose tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, ostensibly for national security reasons.

"The United States has been taken advantage of for decades and decades and we can't do that anymore".

It is an annual summit bringing together Canada, the United States, the UK, France, Italy, Japan and Germany, which represent more than 60% of global net worth between them.

"Russia should be in this meeting, why are we having a meeting without Russian Federation in this meeting?' Trump said".

Trudeau later said he reiterated to Trump that tariffs will harm industries and workers on both sides of the U.S.

European officials said Trump had tried to water down the language in the draft final summit communique on the WTO and rules-based trade.

Trump added that the meeting was a "one-time shot" but he thought it would "work out very well". "And that ends", Trump said. He says "we're not looking to play games".

But Trump appeared to take Trudeau's criticism personally, and denounced the prime minister hours after he departed the G7 summit on Saturday.

'I think there are various discussions about alternatives that would not be that, and that would not be entirely destabilizing for a trade deal, and I think we are open to creativity, ' he said.

There was no immediate reaction from the Canadian government on Trump's tweets.

Investors are also concerned about the future of the North American Free Trade Agreement, which Trump has threatened to terminate.

Mr. Trump planned to leave the summit on Saturday before it discussed climate change and the health of oceans, underlining fractures in the G7 exacerbated by US trade tariffs.

Trump had come to Quebec insisting on his long-standing claim that America has been exploited for too long by existing trade arrangements - and he was met by counterparts equally determined to protect the "rules-based" worldwide system.

Still, the U.S. and European Union will establish a dialog on trade within the next two weeks, signaling a modest step forward for the bitterly divided allies of the G7.

"We're either going to have NAFTA in a better negotiated form or we're going to have two deals", the USA president said.

Trump gave "a long, frank rant", the official said, repeating a position he carried through the 2016 US election campaign into the White House that the United States had suffered at the hands of its trading partners, with French President Emmanuel Macron pushing back on the assertion and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe chiming in.
