Finally, on Monday morning, the Korean Central News Agency, or KCNA, reported Kim was in Singapore, had met with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and would meet Trump on Tuesday.
Another possibility from the summit is a deal to end the Korean War, which North Korea has long demanded, presumably, in part, to get USA troops off the Korean Peninsula and eventually pave the way for a North Korean-led unified Korea.
"Chairman Kim is anxious about whether he can trust that the U.S. will end the policy of hostility and guarantee the stability of his regime", the South Korean President told the media upon his secretive meeting with Kim in May.
During that same impromptu news conference at the G7, Trump said he felt optimistic about his meeting with Kim, which will be the first between a sitting USA president and North Korean leader.
It also offered a list of Pyongyang's talking points, saying Kim and Trump will exchange "wide-ranging and profound views" on establishing a new relationship, the issue of building a "permanent and durable peace mechanism" and realizing the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
So just what will a successful meeting between Trump and Kim actually look like?
Meanwhile, North Korean leader Kim has also said he now wants to focus on building the North Korean economy - and thus wants sanctions relief and global investment, read the report.

In return, Kim, said to be in his mid-thirties, called Trump "mentally deranged" and a "dotard".
Security is tight ahead of the summit between two unpredictable men who in the past have threatened to destroy the other's country during the stand-off over North Korea's nukes. Trump and Kim come from very different backgrounds and ideologies, and at 71, Trump is about twice as old as the North Korean leader.
Most experts say North Korea's nuclear program is so large and the process of dismantling it is so complex that the only way to succeed is to engage Pyongyang in gradual negotiations that could stretch for years. Traffic was held up in the steamy midday sun and scores of bystanders were penned in by police when Trump went to meet Lee.
But last month, Trump abruptly cancelled the Singapore summit, citing the "tremendous anger and open hostility" by Pyongyang.
Despite the White House's "maximum pressure" campaign, the North remained defiant and carried out its sixth nuclear test in September 2017.
Their meeting is expected to begin Tuesday with a one-on-one session - just Trump and Kim and their personal interpreters. And he won't have that opportunity again.
During his preparation period, Trump continued on Monday to publicly brawl on Twitter with USA allies over trade.
"I am on my way to Singapore where we have a chance to achieve a truly wonderful result for North Korea and the World", Trump wrote in a pair of tweets.
If that feeling is not positive, Trump predicted, "I don't want to waste my time". They discussed Singapore-North Korea relations and developments on the Korean peninsula amidst Kim thanking the Singaporean premier for hosting the summit.
The North, many experts believe, stands on the brink of being able to target the entire U.S. mainland with its nuclear-armed missiles, and while there's deep scepticism that Mr Kim will quickly give up those hard-won nukes, there is also some hope that diplomacy can replace the animosity between the United States and the North.

Mattis responded that the question reflected a fundamental disconnect with the way worldwide tribunals have spoken on the matter. China has been building small islands and other maritime features into military facilities there.
"I think we can presume that North Korea made more demands to Singapore than the United States did in terms of security". It will be the first summit of its kind between a leader of North Korea and a sitting US president.
