Kawhi Leonard to Spurs: I want to be traded

  • Kawhi Leonard wants to be traded

The Lakers are an interesting destination for Leonard especially because Cavaliers small forward LeBron James has also been rumored to possibly go to play in LA for the past year and so have players like the Thunders small forward Paul George.

After an injury-plagued season with the San Antonio Spurs, it appears like Kawhi Leonard wants out and would prefer to be sent to the Lakers.

The stand-off has led many to suggest Leonard might have played his last game in a Spurs jersey - including Marc Stein.

Even in a well stocked draft class like we have in 2018, the probability of finding a more remarkable talent than Kawhi Leonard is slim to none.

However, that doesn't necessarily mean Lakers fans should run out and buy purple and gold Leonard jerseys. Are the San Antonio Spurs, the NBA's model organization for the longest time, beginning to crumble?

Now that Leonard wants out of San Antonio they might be interested in sending that counter offer. Leonard - who was drafted 15th overall in the 2011 NBA Draft - has spent all seven seasons of his career with the Spurs.

Unlike the Sixers, the Cavs will have no qualms about moving Love and if the 8th pick brings in Leonard, which should help them re-sign LeBron James, they'll move without hesitation.

If you hadn't heard, a few days ago it was reported that the Celtics tried to get Leonard during the trade deadline.

"If the Spurs are considering Spellman, the move does make sense".

Markkanen would probably have to be packaged with the No. 7 overall pick in the upcoming draft.

The Lakers could give up many young assets, such as Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram, Julius Randle, and Josh Hart. Some claim that it was a dirty play, but nonetheless, Leonard was out for some time. In that scenario, assuming James and George signed as free agents, Los Angeles would only have them, Leonard, and Deng under contract.

Working in the Celtics favor is Popovich's own rule of not trading any players to a team that is in his conference, so for now, the Lakers are out.
