Political decisions will now be made by the government in New Delhi, though day-to-day life is unlikely to change significantly for the people of Kashmir.

The BJP's expectations from the alliance in Jammu and Kashmir could not be fulfilled given the prevailing situation in the state, R K Singh said.

But in the three and half years of the rule, there has been perpetual sparring between PDP and BJP over several issues.

A day after the BJP pulled out of the alliance with PDP in J&K, the minister said the party "did its best" and tried everything to bring peace and development in the valley.

Though the party workers are very happy with the decision taken by its leadership by pulling out of the alliance, still the BJP wants no stone unturned to capitalise on it not only in Jammu and Kashmir but in other parts of the country as well.

The deteriorating law and security situation in Kashmir and "discrimination" against Jammu and Ladakh was also cited as reasons for leaving the coalition government.

The PDP is seen as a party sympathetic to separatist groups, and has long demanded the removal of a draconian law that gives Indian forces sweeping powers to search, enter property and shoot on sight.

The ceasefire announced by the Centre for the month of Ramzan was revoked on Sunday. "Had it been our aim, there were still three more years left to govern the state", he said.

The BJP, which had allied with the regional People's Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015 to rule India's only Muslim-majority state, urged a federal response to the increasing terrorism and violence in a territory that is also claimed by neighboring Pakistan.

"They can do anything now in the absence of a government which otherwise could built pressure on them on certain issues", Feroz Ahmad Bhat, a resident of central Kashmir's Ganderbal said.

Though the BJP took the first step of breaking away from the alliance, it may have ill-conceived that this unilateral step will prove beneficial to them.
