Mari Cilic beats Novak Djokovic to win Fever-Tree Championships at Queen's Club

  • Nick Kyrgios believes Britain's Kyle Edmund can be a Wimbledon threat

Djokovic, playing in his first final on the tour in nearly a year, had a huge chance to finish the match when he had a match point at 5-4 but he could not convert.

Kyrgios was in action against Marin Cilic during the Queen's Club Championship, the Wimbledon warm-up event on Saturday.

Britain's Andy Murray faces a tricky first-round match at Eastbourne after being drawn against fellow three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka.

"It's special to play here and I've played great tennis throughout the week and it's great to have another shot at the title", the 2012 Queen's champion said.

"It's just sometimes, you're pumped and frustrated". I'm just glad to keep this going, and I don't want to celebrate too much. "This is as big a tournament as it gets prior to Wimbledon, and I played in the final and nearly won it so it's a great result".

Unseeded Djokovic was given some trouble by Jeremy Chardy in the opening set but prevailed 7-6 (7-5) 6-4.

Wildcard Djokovic seemed agitated at times as Chardy, who has won 12 of 13 matches on grass over the past three weeks, proved a tricky opponent.

Cilic was then a mini-break down in the tiebreak, but reeled off six points on the bounce to force a decider, taking the second set 7-6 (7/4).

Neither player could impose himself on the other in the second until at 5-4 Djokovic forced a first match point, which was saved by a thumping service victor from the other end.

"So for the first part of the match I was not really confident to actually hit the return", Djokovic said.

Videos picked up by fans show Kyrgios playing the circle game with his camp, clearly more interested in having a laugh than trying to break down Cilic's serve.

It was a particularly satisfying win for last year's Wimbledon finalist who had also held match point in the 2017 Queen's final before being edged out by Feliciano Lopez.

Despite the Croat's grass-court prowess and superior recent Grand Slam form, the fact that he's down 14-1 against Djokovic on head to head ensures Cilic won't be feeling superior.

Kyrgios continued his playful mood into the match and was spotted focusing more on games with his team in the stands than on his match with Cilic.
