The absence of Italy, Germany and Netherlands, who have played in a total of 17 World Cup finals between them, has left a rare void.

Although Germany beat Sweden thanks to a late Toni Kroos free-kick, defeats either side to Mexico and Korea Republic saw the defending champions finish bottom of Group F.

'Having to leave the World Cup already after the group stage hurts so much, ' he said.

Later on Saturday, two-time World Cup champions Uruguay battle reigning European champions Portugal as slim +180 chalk, while Sunday's action has Spain taking on host nation Russian Federation as a heavy -180 bet, and the surprising squad from Croatia clashing with Denmark as -120 favourites. The underdog Koreans stunned the reigning titlists 2-0 and consequently eliminated them from the tournament.

Following Wednesday's shock exit of four-times champions Germany, the knockout draw could now harbour more surprises than ever before.

The FIFA World Cup 2018, which is underway in Russian Federation, has left football fans and enthusiast around the globe in a frenzy.

There had been some worrying signs, though, in the buildup to the tournament as Germany failed to keep clean sheets in their last five friendly games before the tournament, even losing to Austria 2-1 in early June.

"Speechless", read a one-word tweet on the German team's official Twitter account, summing up the national mood.

Bild headlines from Germany's 7-1 win over Brazil in 2014 and its 2-0 loss to South Korea in 2018. "We have to admit that we really disappointed at this tournament".

I wonder how many coaches got together with their students in order to assist them to develop greater understanding and the goal of hard work which results in success at any level?

"As we won we can say everything went as planned".

Still, since both teams share the ultimate goal of winning the World Cup, rather than merely reaching the quarterfinals, it's hard not to see England's placement as advantageous.

A convincing defeat to Sweden has tempered expectations slightly but Mexico showed enough in their opening two games to suggest they can be a real threat.

"Whether Low is still the right person to manage this team, I can not say".
