Germany, the 2014 champions, Confederations Cup champions and FIFA's top-ranked team, were eliminated at the first hurdle for the first time since 1938. South Korea were also eliminated despite the victory.

The South Koreans themselves went home with just three points from their three games, but the famous win against the Germans - and the celebrations that followed - will live long in the memory.

"We're going to review today's match and all the other matches, so I think we'll be able to prepare better". "Everyone, from the players down to the coaching staff, competed as one for the people back home".

In case you missed last night's developments at the FIFA World Cup in Russian Federation, a lot happened.

A late corner into the German box bobbled around until it found the foot of South Korea's Kim Young-gwon, who tapped it over the leg of oncoming German captain and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

But head coach Shin Tae-yong made a surprise starter out of Jo in the first Group F match in Russian Federation against Sweden on June 18.

Jo was back in goal against Mexico last Saturday.

South Korea, for its part, needed a miracle to qualify for the next round; in the end, although neither side qualified, it was a match that will be remembered for years to come in the Asian nation. Jo could hardly be blamed for either of the goals. That result put Germany in a good position to advance, as well. But the strategy did not bring much success in the first half. We looked at Germany's formation.

Gomez had a decent header stopped by Jo in the 68th minute and could not properly connect with a low cross from Joshua Kimmich in the 72nd as Germany's hopes vanished.

Germany's loss in Kazan meant that they finished bottom of Group F, while Mexico and Sweden progressed to the last-16 stage.

In a must-win match for the reigning champions, Germany could not live up to the expectations as a resilient South Korea team managed to oust the champions with a 2-0 win. Their chances depended on the results of the other match.

"I will be there, if my country calls me I will be there and everywhere", he said. "I'm incredibly disappointed by this elimination".

Asked whether he will continue in the role he has held for the last 12 years, Low, 58, told a press conference: "That's hard to say".
