A violent brawl broke out during a game between Australia and the Philippines. Maker, a 7-foot-1 South Sudanese Australian who now plays center for the Milwaukee Bucks, was playing for the Australian National Team and Blatche, a former NBA player, was on the Philippines. "We didn't want what happened to happen", Philippines basketball president Al Panlilo said in an address to fans as the game was stopped, according to ABS-CBN News.

Maker, Kickert, Christopher Goulding and Nathan Sobey were ejected for Australia.

But if their side is routed by suspensions it will make things hard for one of the world's fastest growing basketball populations, in short this game could cost them a world cup place and basketball will be poorer for it.

Roger Pogoy, Carl Bryan Cruz, Terrence Romeo, Jayson Castro, Japeth Aguilar, Matthew Wright, Andray Blatche, Calvin Abueva and Troy Rosario were ejected for their part in the brawl.

Basketball is not supposed to be a full-contact sport, but a FIBA qualifying match between Austalia and the Philippines got brutal after one foul led to a massive brawl.

Scheduled post-match press conferences for both teams were cancelled in the aftermath of the incident. "The Philippine basketball federation and the players are our friends and neighbors, but also a very tough opponent that we respect very much". At the end of this we will await for the referees' decision.

"Maker, the 10th overall pick of the Bucks in 2016, was an easy target at 7'1".

FIBA issued a statement saying that it will "open disciplinary proceedings against both teams" and an announcement about any further discipline will be made in the coming days. Should the Boomers qualify, Basketball Australia will hope he can serve any ban in the windows to come. That's when the game was stopped, resulting in an 89-53 victory for Australia.
