A conservative group plans to launch an ad campaign in four states with Democratic senators Monday night immediately after President Trump announces his new Supreme Court nominee in a prime-time address.

After a weekend deliberating with aides and calling allies for advice, he tweeted, "I have long heard that the most important decision a U.S. President can make is the selection of a Supreme Court Justice - Will be announced tonight at 9:00 P.M".

Ahead of the decision, Trump has built suspense about whom his pick will be.

Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham of SC and Roy Blunt of Missouri said Sunday that they believe any of the top four contenders could get confirmed by the GOP-majority Senate.

Trump is said to have apparently lost interest in Kethledge.

While the U.S. Senate once required a 60-vote supermajority to overcome blocking tactics against Supreme Court nominees, the Republican majority changed the rules previous year during the debate on Justice Neil Gorsuch.

"Remember, the President ran on the Supreme Court issue and that greatly enthused voters", Leonard Leo, who is now on leave from the Federalist Society, where he helped craft Trump's list of candidates, said on ABC's "This Week" Sunday.

It is not exaggeration to say that the prospect of tipping the balance of the Supreme Court was the reason why evangelical conservative voters, who had plenty of reason to worry about Trump's character, chose to stick with him during the 2016 election campaign.

"I'm getting very close to making a final decision".

Kethledge, 51, is a University of Michigan Law School graduate and former Kennedy law clerk who works out of an office he set up in an old barn overlooking Lake Huron in northern Michigan.

If the nomination is delayed and Democrats capture an extra seat in the Senate in November elections, Trump could be forced to compromise with liberals in order to fill Kennedy's seat. That means President Trump should select anyone but Kethledge or Hardiman. If she's chosen and confirmed, it would be the first time four women would serve together on the nine-member Supreme Court.

In this image from video provided by C-SPAN, Raymond Kethledge testifies during his confirmation hearing for the 6th U.S. Circuit Court on May 7, 2008.

Jones, during an appearance with CNN's Dana Bash on Sunday's "State of the Union" program, said he was "open to vote yes" or "open to voting no" on Trump's pick.

Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) questions Barrett on her Catholic faith and whether it would influence her decisions on the federal appeals court in her Senate confirmation hearing, September 6, 2017. The court could also be called upon to render judgment on issues of personal significance to Trump and his administration including matters arising from Special Counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing Russia-related investigation and several civil lawsuits pending against Trump. They see him as too pragmatic and have painted him as the kind of nominee who could betray conservatives. Democratic senators running for re-election in states Trump carried in 2016 will face pressure to back his nominee.

In an earlier interview on "This Week", Stephanopoulos asked Leonard Leo, who is on leave from the conservative Federalist Society to advise Trump on his Supreme Court pick, about the concern that anyone on Trump's list of potential nominees would oppose Roe v. Wade.
