Mueller is looking broadly into Russia's meddling in the USA election and its contacts with people in Trump's campaign.

"Yes", he said. "I have every indication there's nothing in this investigation that has any ability to touch the President". Comey's firing in May 2017 helped set in motion the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller, and one-on-one conversations with Trump that Comey documented in a series of memos helped form the basis of Mueller's inquiry into whether the president obstructed justice.

Host Chuck Todd asked if Giuliani wanted Cohen to cooperate with investigators, and Giuliani responded: "Yes".

Mueller removed Strzok from his team as soon as the texts were discovered, and Mueller is a Republican. I think it's a sign of how confident the president is that he did nothing wrong.

Giuliani acknowledged the White House not agreeing to an interview with a member of Trump's staff was new, given that other key staffers, including Trump's son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner, have spoken with investigators.

"Michale Cohen feels under attack by Rudy Giuliani and the president", Borger said.

"I don't think he has a choice". "As long as he tells the truth, we're home free".

Cohen, who is Trump's former attorney and who once famously said that he was prepared to "take a bullet" and "do anything" to protect him, is under intensifying scrutiny from federal prosecutors in Manhattan.

Michael Cohen's new lawyer blasted Rudy Giuliani for suggesting President Trump's former longtime fixer tell the truth to the special counsel's Russian Federation investigation.

Giuliani emphasized Cohen "telling the truth" on three separate occasions during the interview. "We have to hold him back", he said. "The president did nothing wrong with him".

He said Giuliani is taking public positions - such as setting conditions for a possible Trump-Mueller interview - because he realizes that this case is playing out in the court of public opinion. But he seemed not to rule out that the president might change his mind.
