That business-friendly Brexit proposal was agreed by her cabinet only last Friday after two years of wrangling since Britons voted to leave the bloc in a 2016 referendum. He also joked that Britain was "a pretty hot spot right now with a lot of resignations" and he has mused about meeting Mr. Johnson.

Mr Trump told journalists he had been "reading a lot about Brexit".

"I think we need to ask ourselves consistently what more we can do", was all that Merkel said.

"We urge that the Scottish Government rules out any use of Prestwick by the president or his entourage, and so send the most powerful message possible that Donald Trump is not welcome in Scotland".

Trump has always been a supporter of Brexit and has expressed enthusiasm for a wide-ranging trade deal with Britain after it leaves the European Union, something heralded by Brexit supporters as being one of the great benefits of exiting the bloc.

Some Brexit supporters have cast May's Brexit plan as a betrayal, including MPs in her own deeply-divided party who have warned of a leadership challenge.

"But having a special relationship means that we expect the highest standards from each other, and it also means speaking out when we think the values we hold dear are under threat", he said. A YouGov poll on Wednesday showed 77 percent had an unfavourable opinion of the president and just 50 per cent thought his visit should go ahead.

He told the tabloid that's part of why he's spending so little time in the city, saying: "I guess when they put out blimps to make me feel unwelcome, no reason for me to go to London".

"If they do a deal like that, we would be dealing with the European Union instead of dealing with the United Kingdom, so it will probably kill the deal", said Trump.

"Boris Johnson's a friend of mine, he's been very nice to me, very supportive and maybe I'll speak to him when I get over there".

A high metal fence has been erected around the US ambassador's central London residence where Trump will spend Thursday night and the embassy has sent out an alert warning Americans in London to keep a low profile in case protests turn violent.

They said that the performers will also be marching with a fetish group, as Fetish Week London is running from July 8 to 15.

After the president and First Lady Melania Trump arrived at Stansted Airport, Trump said he was "fine" about any protests during his visit.

There are also plans for protestors to gather close to the USA ambassador's residence in Regent's Park, where Trump and his wife, Melania, will stay overnight on Thursday. Organizers have been given permission to float a giant balloon depicting Mr. Trump as a baby and they've already declared victory by noting that the President is largely avoiding London during his visit.

On Saturday, Trump supporters will rally near the United States embassy in Nine Elms, south London, for an event titled "Welcoming Trump to Britain Rally - Make Britain Great Again", at which a number of right-wing figures are scheduled to speak.

Addressing Mr Trump in front of an audience of business leaders at Winston Churchill's birthplace, Mrs May insisted that Brexit provides an opportunity for an "unprecedented" agreement to boost jobs and growth.

The leaders will then hold talks at the PM's residence of Chequers.

They will then meet the Queen for the first time, at Windsor Castle, before heading to Scotland where the U.S. president will spend the weekend at his Turnberry golf course in Ayrshire.

And in an apparent plea to the president to remember his allies when he meets Vladimir Putin on Monday, Mrs May noted that Britain and America work closely on security "whether through targeting Daesh terrorists or standing up to Russian aggression".
