Anderson agreed, adding: 'I really hope we can address this'. The official time was 11 hours, 5 minutes.

NADAL-DJOKOVIC DELAYED That recovery process started as soon as he came off Centre Court at 7:46 p.m. on Friday. The third-set tiebreak between Djokovic and Nadal finished at 11:02 p.m., and an announcement was made immediately that play had been suspended.

The pressure continued to mount on the world No. 1 as Djokovic created another break point opportunity, with his Spanish opponent punching the air with glee after denying the Serb.

The eighth seed will face either twice champion Rafael Nadal or three-times victor Novak Djokovic in Sunday's final.

Anderson's fifth set alone lasted almost 3 hours as his semifinal became a test of endurance more than skill. "At the end you feel like it's a draw, but someone has to win", an exhausted Anderson, who had sensationally beaten defending champion Roger Federer in another nail-biting five-setter two days ago, said. "Just disappointed to lose. I was pretty close to making a Grand Slam final, and it didn't happen".

But if Nadal rallies, he would encounter Anderson in a second grand slam final in less than a year, having toppled the 32-year-old at the US Open last September. "At that stage, you're just trying to fight in every single moment, and I was like, 'Just get up!'" Anderson still returned Isner's next lob, then switched the racket from his left hand to his right before finishing off the point. He criticized the lack of a deciding-set tiebreaker at Wimbledon, the Australian Open and the French Open. "For a lot of people, that's definitely the lasting image of my career", Isner said.

One spectator called out, "Come on, guys!"

"We don't want it to be 70-68, John", someone shouted from the crowd at 8-8.

The 6-foot-10 Isner and the 6-foot-8 Anderson had played 11 times before on tour, but they also faced each other in college, including in the 2007 NCAA finals, which Isner won. The serving, though, was something else.

Little wonder the 33-year-old is feeling "pure elation" and ready to continue his title assault against the 10th-seeded Anderson.

Pre-match, many underplayed Anderson and Isner's all-round on-court talents, thinking that it would be a long slog between two "serve-bots".

Both failed to seize early opportunities. The American roared and turned to his box as he took the third set on his third set point.

Could we be about to see the sixth and last break of a match that would end up with 90 holds? Two points later, Isner held with a forehand passing victor on the run and let his momentum carry him directly to his sideline chair for the ensuing changeover.

"I feel pretty awful". I apologize if I'm not fully excited right now.

The American's response was immediate, breaking straight back in the next game as Anderson served for a two sets to love lead at 5-3.

Kevin Anderson and John Isner began their semi-final contest on Centre Court on Friday. Anderson earned his fourth victory in all-time head-to-head battle with Isner.
