  • Blazers have engaged Spurs in Kawhi Leonard trade talks: Report

He was a regular starter nearly right away and soon became an anchor on the team, which has made five straight playoff appearances but been unable to get to the NBA Finals.

Welp, ESPN's Chris Haynes followed that up with a tweet saying that Leonard "has no desire to play in Toronto". At his best, Leonard was perhaps the second-best player in the National Basketball Association, and these are the type of risks necessary when such a rare talent becomes available on the market at a depressed price. Hopefully that will inspire Leonard, who is reportedly not too thrilled by the trade.

Early morning Wednesday, DeRozan posted some vague messaging to his Instagram account that would suggest a trade could be imminent.

The Spurs medical staff cleared Leonard to return to the team but the 27-year-old forward received a second opinion from his own doctors that said he needed more rehabilitation.

As the world of social media is again fluttering with discussions on how the Spurs core got shattered and on which team won the trade, San Antonio's living legend head coach Gregg Popovich plainly stated that everyone should just turn away from the past.

After weeks of speculation that tied the Lakers to the two-time All-Star, that largely subsided as the 2018 NBA Draft came and went and free agency began. We wish him all the best as he moves on to Toronto. Neither team had officially confirmed the deal Wednesday, but The Associated Press, ESPN and other outlets reported that a trade agreement was in place.

The Raptors actually saw their odds start to improve once they started being mentioned in the Leonard sweepstakes, as they were as high as 60/1 on July 2. His dream landing spot, according to all reports was the Los Angeles Lakers, his hometown team, where he could play alongside LeBron James. It is going to be very hard for the Raptors to sell the city of Toronto over Leonard's hometown Los Angeles. Then they added Danny Green, so they got some experience, some winning but both guys are on the previous year of their deals. But they know they're not good enough to win a title, and while they stopped short of blowing up the team they sure gave the foundation a couple of good thwacks with a wrecking ball in dumping Casey and trading DeRozan.

Some have questioned the Lakers' tactics given that it means James' hopes of adding another ring to his collection this season is all but dependent on him himself, having near single-handedly carried the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Finals previous year.

The shooting guard has three years and $83 million remaining on his contract, which includes a player option for the 2020-21 season.
