Shep Smith responds to White House version of ‘disinvite’ of CNN reporter

  • WH Bans CNN Reporter For Asking Trump About Putin

It is customary for the press pool to lob a few questions at the president.

It is standard protocol for reporters to ask the president questions at such events, and Trump, unlike some of his predecessors, often engages.

The ultra-competitive White House press corps is displaying something rare and refreshing: Solidarity.

"To address the thing about how Collins "refused" to leave the session upon request: Such a "refusal" could well be attributed to just about any pool representative who has filed into an Oval Office meeting, "wrote media critic Erik Wemple at the Washington Post".

Remind Me About Michael Cohen and These Tapes.

She and her employer, CNN, said she was barred because White House officials found her questions "inappropriate", which Mr. Gidley disputed.

On the heels of President Donald Trump's Orwellian remark advising supporters that what they read in the news "is not what's happening", the White House released its own statement claiming that it supports a free press-directly after banning a reporter from a news conference.

Typically, the White House announces that a closed presidential event will include a "spray" at the top, which means a small "pool" of journalists representing print, radio, broadcast and wire services will be invited into the room at the beginning. On the recording, which was first aired on CNN Tuesday night, Trump and Cohen appear to be discussing a hush-money payoff to former Playboy model Karen McDougal, who said she had a year-along affair with Trump more than a decade ago.

Tapper also expressed gratitude for those who came to Collins' defense like Fox News anchor Bret Baier and acknowledged how the network put out a statement "speaking for the part of the news division" that is "actually trying to do journalism" and not from those who spend "their entire time attacking the rest of us" in the media. Banning a reporter because you don't like her questions is something dictators do. The decision to bar a member of the press is retaliatory in nature and not indicative of an open and free press.

The White House Correspondents Association said "this type of retaliation is wholly inappropriate, wrong-headed, and weak".

"Bill Shine, full disclosure, is my personal friend", Smith said Thursday during his show "Shepard Smith Reporting".

The president gets the publicity he wants - footage, say, of his hand-shake with another head of state or signing key legislation into law. "Reporters have pretty much learned to tune out the cries of the wranglers in hopes of securing answers to their shouted questions".
