North Korea said to be working on new missiles

Addressing upcoming meetings in southeast Asia, US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert confirmed that North Korea's Kim Jong-un had already committed to full denuclearization during his June summit with President Trump.

Critics say Trump and Kim's agreement fell woefully short on specifics when it comes to Pyongyang's nuclear warheads and ballistic missiles, but Trump and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have preached patience.

In May, Trump halted new sanctions targeting North Korea in anticipation of his summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

"The remains received from North Korea are being handled with the utmost care and respect by professional historians, forensic scientists, uniformed personnel and government officials", the US-led UN Command said in a statement. However, just as in the case of all the supposed chemical and biological weapons sites in Iraq, US intelligence agencies have in the past declared that certain sites within North Korea were secret nuclear facilities, when further investigation showed less threatening answers.

Kim signed an agreement to work toward denuclearization during a summit with Trump last month, and Trump spent the wake of the meeting praising the brutal regime leader's character and intelligence.

"What's more, a liquid-fuelled ICBM doesn't pose nearly the threat that a solid-fuelled one would because they take so long to fuel, and that's something we almost certainly could see in time to abort a launch, given our assets in the vicinity". Moreover, the test stand could easily be rebuilt within months.

Buttressing the intelligence findings, independent missile experts this week also reported observing activity consistent with missile construction at the Sanumdong plant.

According to The Washington Post, the officials cited satellite images that purportedly show activity at the Sanumdong military facility. The Monterey, Calif., nonprofit group analyzed commercial photos obtained from the satellite imagery firm Planet.

"We see them going to work, just as before", one U.S. official said.

The remains were handed over by the Korean People's Army (KPA) in the North Korean city of Wonsan before being transported to South Korea on Friday, the anniversary of the armistice that paused hostilities in the Korean War, which lasted from 1950 to 1953.

On Tuesday athletes from the two sides met in Chungju, in central South Korea, for a "launching ceremony" for their boats.

The football-field-size building surrounded by a high wall and high-rise residential towers was externally completed by 2003, according to historical satellite photos, and United States intelligence agencies believe it has been operational for at least 10 years. If so, North Korea's stockpile of enriched uranium could be substantially higher than is commonly believed. "That was certainly the case during the Cold War when the US and USSR continued to build missiles and nuclear weapons even while negotiating arms reduction agreements".

The report was based on classified intelligence supplied by USA officials under the condition of anonymity.

One leading expert on North Korea's missile program agrees.

North Korea is continuing to build new missiles, according to USA officials cited by the Washington Post. It has in the past two years quickly advanced its nuclear programme.

The unified teams will mark the first time the two Koreas compete together in the Asian Games.

There was only one identification "dog tag" the North Koreans included in the transfer, he said, but it's unclear whether his remains were among the 55 caskets.
