Ferrari's German driver Sebastian Vettel prepares to take part in a free practice session ahead of the Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring circuit in Mogyorod near Budapest, Hungary, on Sunday.

The Hungarian Grand Prix may have ended in disappointing fashion for one Mercedes driver in Valtteri Bottas, but there is no doubt that his Silver Arrows teammate dominated the race from start to finish.

Ferrari drivers Kimi Raikkonen of Finland and Sebastian Vettel of Germany are to start from the second row, after clinching third and fourth respectively. Hamilton's victory was a near-perfect send-off for him and Mercedes as the F1 circus set off for a four-week closedown that will end when the teams return to action in Belgium at the end of August.

"Fortunately I did enough work early on while I had the opportunity, while he was behind Valtteri". But I was next to him on the inside, I had no half of my front wing so I was locking up as well.

"I didn't do myself a favour last week but I think it's part of racing", said Vettel. "It's not too often I get to do family holidays so that's something I'm looking forward to".

For all of Ferrari's new-found speed - estimated at times to be almost 0.5 seconds quicker than Mercedes on some sectors of the track - Vettel remains prone to lapses in concentration and his team makes sloppy errors.

We are on equal terms and I trust the team 100% on that.

Bottas, who lost part of his front wing, dropped to fifth after a late collision with Daniel Ricciardo, who overtook the Finn on the final lap in his second shot at the wounded Mercedes vehicle.

After crashing out of the lead of the German Grand Prix one week ago, Vettel missed out on a shot at victory in Hungary this weekend despite having the quickest auto in normal conditions.

Earlier in the season, a mechanic's leg was broken by the Finnish driver's auto following an unsafe pit release at the Bahrain GP.

While in the constructor's standings, Mercedes is at the top with 345 points, followed by Ferrari (335 points) and Red Bull (223 points).

Bottas was praised by Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff for his "wingman" performance in those circumstances.

'And he would have said the same about Lewis if he'd be in same situation and had a similar race. "But what's really important is that we continue to keep up the pressure and keep working as we have done until now".

"This year we all know that Ferrari really do have the upper hand pace-wise", said the Briton after his fifth win of the campaign.

"I had a feeling the auto was fine and it was until the end". "Lucky that the vehicle wasn't broken and we could carry on".

"I know what he meant". Compared to past year, we lost the championship because our vehicle wasn't quick enough to be a match in the final part of the season, despite what happened with the DNFs.
