The latest story you may have heard is that Nike released an ad featuring Colin Kaepernick, the former NFL player who drew controversy by kneeling during the National Anthem as a protest against social injustice.

Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarter-back, is now without an NFL team after he became the first player to take a knee during the national anthem before a match.

"I have tremendous respect for Nike, and Phil Knight, and everything they've meant to sports ..."

Brian Searcy (Ret.) on the fallout from Nike naming Colin Kaepernick the face of its "Just Do it" anniversary campaign. About halfway through, he says, "Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything", an apparent reference to his career as quarterback for the 49ers, which ended past year following his controversial decision to kneel while the national anthem was sung to protest injustice. "Anybody that wants to burn or throw away their NIKE shoes b/c of the new Kaepernick ad".

Williams said of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Kaepernick: "He's done a lot for the African-American community, and it's cost him a lot".

Stephen Martin, the owner of Prime Time Sports, said he knows he is jeopardizing his business, as a large part of his inventory is Nike NFL jerseys, according to KRDO.

At the start of the advert, he says: "If people say your dreams are insane, if they laugh at what you think you can do, good".

Nike's decision has been heavily criticized by some customers who posted videos to social media of them burning and cutting up their Nike attire.

The ad will debut on NBC in the NFL's opening round encounter between the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles.

Kaepernick, 30, has not played since the 2016 season and filed a grievance last October against NFL owners for collusion, claiming they schemed to keep him off the football field because of his protests, not his football playing ability.
