The social media company tweeted out the decision from its Twitter Safety account Thursday afternoon, stating that it permanently suspended Alex Jones and InfoWars after both accounts posted tweets and videos that violated the company's abusive-behavior policy.
Jones had about 900,000 followers on Twitter and Infowars had about 430,000.
Hopefully, we'll begin to see a positive change in the way Twitter keeps users safe, and that Jones will continue to have his platform chipped away until he fades into the void. Twitter says Jones posted a video on Wednesday that is in violation of the company's policy against "abusive behavior".
According to a Twitter spokesperson speaking with The Daily Beast, the impetus for the suspension stems from an altercation between Jones and CNN reporter Oliver Darcy during yesterday's Senate Intelligence Committee hearing.
Infowars and Jones' accounts were also banned from Periscope, which is owned by Twitter.
Twitter also said that it "will take action" if in the future it discovers other accounts being used to get around the ban of Jones and InfoWars.
He later posted videos showing himself verbally confronting a CNN reporter as well as Republican Senator Marco Rubio in a hallway.

Radio host Alex Jones showed up before a Senate hearing on social media to blast the Democratic party, the leading tech companies and others, claiming they are working together to silence conservative voices ahead of the midterm elections.
At one point, he said Darcy was "smiling like a possum that crawled out of the rear end of a dead cow".
Jones countered, "Oh, you want me to get arrested?"
After talking over Rubio a few times, Jones tapped the senator on the shoulder, as seen in video live-streamed and promoted by Cassandra Fairbanks, a right-wing blogger and an activist.
