Basically, Hurricane Florence is coming in hot. A turn toward the northwest is forecast to occur on the night of September 12, the NHC said.

Florence is expected to strengthen further. This is a very risky hurricane.

Astronaut Ricky Arnold, onboard the International Space Station, captured the hurricane churning in the Atlantic as it morphed into a monster storm.

NOAA Hurricane Florence is forecast to hit the northeast coast later this week.

Hurricane Florence is now a Category 2 storm and is still forecast to slam into the southeastern United States.

It has so far reached a maximum wind speed of 90 miles per hour. It brings with it winds of 111 - 129 miles per hour.

American Airlines said it's is monitoring three separate storms and has issued travel alerts to a total of 39 airports in different parts of the world.

The center of the strong storm is about 1,240 miles east-southeast of Bald Head Island, with the hurricane moving westward at roughly 13 mph.

Evacuations have been ordered as the US East Coast braces for Hurricane Florence - in what may be the strongest storm to hit the region in decades.

"The most likely scenario is that it hits the North Carolina coast", meteorologist Dale Eck said in an interview.

The weather system could reach category five as its draws strength from the warm Atlantic waters, say forecasters. Which among other things, means people need to start preparing now.

Florence was about 625 miles southeast of Bermuda as of 5 a.m. ET Monday.

National Hurricane Centre director Ken Graham warned that Florence is forecast to linger over the Carolinas once it reaches shore.

Jeff Orrock, chief meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Wakefield, said Virginia Beach can likely expect tropical storm force winds to arrive late Wednesday or early Thursday, with winds increasing throughout Thursday. An hour later, at noon, the agency tweeted that Florence had grown again to a Category 4, with maximum sustained winds near 130 mph. NASA astronaut Ricky Arnold, now on board the International Space Station, shared a fresh look at Florence from above on Monday. "We just happen to be right in the middle".

"The uninterrupted supply of electricity, fuel oil, diesel oil, gasoline, kerosene, propane, liquid petroleum gas, food, water, livestock and poultry feed and medical supplies to residential and commercial establishments is essential before, during and after the storm and any interruption in the delivery of those commodities threatens the public welfare", the executive order states.

A National Hurricane Center model showed the Wilmington region being socked with high winds and rain Thursday night and Friday morning.

Some officials have already begun taking early precautions.

The storm "is too powerful and its path is too uncertain to take any chances", South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster said, issuing his state's emergency declaration.
